Submission Guidelines

U.S. Military History Review welcomes manuscripts of 5,000- 7,500 words (20-30 double-spaced pages) on any aspect of U.S. military history. To submit an article for consideration, please send an email to editor@usmhg.org with the following attachments:

1. An abstract, on which appears your name and contact information (including your mailing address);

2. Your manuscript, which — for the sake of peer review — must exclude your name and contact information;

3. A full c.v.

When formatting your manuscript, please double-space the text, place it in a 12-point Times New Roman font, and use consecutively-numbered footnotes for citation. On other matters, we refer you to The Chicago Manual of Style (16th edition).

Please keep in mind that you are responsible for the accuracy of quotations and citations within your submission. We ask that you proofread your footnotes for both style and substance before submitting, as extensive copyediting on our end can only increase the possibility of error. If we perceive that your citations require a great deal of adjustment, concern for accuracy will prompt us to refer the matter back to you.

U.S. Military History Review encourages authors to illustrate their text with photographs, maps, or other artwork. Please submit these electronically in .jpg or .tiff format. You will be responsible for obtaining any necessary copyright permissions for these materials, as well as paying any permission, use, or processing fees associated with their publication.

On acceptance, the editors will send a contract and assignment of copyright. In the meantime, we take for granted that you have not submitted your manuscript for consideration elsewhere.
